Massive thanks to John and Danielle and their CSS team for today’s game on a pitch that still hasn’t fully recovered from the amyof rain fall over the weeks. We used today’s game to experiment with players positions and different styles of football which the kids weren’t happy about but a massive part of development is experiencing different positions and the situations they can put you in.
We started the game strong passing the ball well across the defence and midfield creating some good chances. The breakthrough game just before the 10th minute when Jay Prestages surging run and shot deflected off the post and the goalkeeper to find its way to Thomas Baxter who had the easy task of putting the ball into the net, he may never score an easier goal. Shayne doubled the lead soon after when his snap shot from inside the box cut its way into the far bottom corner. Shay doubled his tally mid way through the half when he headed in Liam’s corner, we don’t see many headed goals in kids football but that’s 2 in 2 games from corners. Just before the half time whistle Shayne completed his hat trick when he took down Damins long pass superbly and slotted the ball into the bottom corner.
At half time we reminded the kids to be respectful and keep up the effort, it must have went in one ear and out the other as The Strollers scores soon after the restart when we were far too static leaving Harry with no option but to kick, his kick was blocked and ricocheted into the net. CSS added a second a started to mount a decent fight back, until Euans quick turn and shot from the edge of the box flew into the top corner. Strollers slipped another goal passed Harry before Jay and Jack added a couple of quick fire goals at the end of the game.
A good game for the kids and one we hope they have took lessons from, only issue we will look to address is the lack of movement in the second half, the lack of work off the ball lead to having no passing options which put us under pressure leading to mistakes on the ball, as always we strive to improve 💪🏻
