Great warm up for the transition festival with a well deserved win today. We told the kids we wanted them to work harder for each other and be more positive than last week and they gave us what we asked for. We were fast out the traps today and had a very strong hold on the game but found it hard to break down a stuffy Edina defence. We eventually got the breakthrough we deserved after a succession of corners Jay Metcalfe managed to get on the end of Euan Bernard’s whipped cross to notch his first Easthouses goal. The number 27 tormenting the hosts on the right wing all through the 1st half but we never managed to add to the lead before half time.
Edina came out strong for the second half and had us penned into our own half at the start of the second half. We coped well with questions Edina we’re asking of our defence and managed to get the ball out to Jay M who blitzed down the right and firing in a shot which was spilled by the keeper and Brian was on hand to tap in the rebound que “The Floss” being broken out by the young forward. Our second goal seemed to knock the wind out of the hosts as we were starting to pile forward to add on to the score. We added a third again from the wing with Jack Thomson storing forward towards the by line before cutting back to Lenny Sneddon who showed great determination to get forward and connect with Jacks pass. Lenny doubled his tally soon after when he collected Ross’ pass on the edge of the box knocking the ball out his feet and unleashing a fantastic turn and shot into the bottom corner. We were looking good to capture our first ever clean sheet with Harry having very little to do all game but the team could smell blood and wanted to grab goals for themselves that left us short at the back and Edina managed to scramble in a late consolation. The drama wasn’t finished with that, after another great run from Jay Metcalfe this time from the left was hauled down in the box for a clear penalty. Jay dusted himself off to take it himself but was saved by the goal keeper.
Outstanding play from everyone today and we really struggled to pick one player for Player of the Match. We awarded it to Jay for the reason the Edina coaches had picked him out for special praise.
